Super Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric, Cinnamon, Ginger & Orange Brew
This brew is for anytime of the year, but its warming spices and anti-inflammatory super foods, such as turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon make it a cold-flu season star. Sweeten it with raw honey and reap honey's exceptional antiviral properties too—just what you need this time of the year! Raw Manuka Honey is particularly special, but look for one with a UMF of at least 16, with 50 being even better of course! (But also much more expensive.) My family and I consume Manuka honey as food, but also use it as an ointment for cuts, burns, etc. It's good stuff! (Except for vegans...sorry to my beautiful vegan readers!)
Recipe makes two large cups:
- 6 cups pure water
- 1 piece fresh ginger (about 6 cm)
- 1 tbsp turmeric powder
- 1 cinnamon stick
- juice of 1 orange (or lemon)
- raw honey to taste
- Put all ingredients, except honey, into a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until the liquid is reduced to about half (3 cups).
- Optionally, you can make the same brew, but with lemon instead of orange.
